Healing of the official's Son John 4:43-54
Welcome to the continued Treasure Hunt!
The Scripture Discussion passage this week was:
John 4:46-54 46 As he traveled through Galilee, he came to Cana, where he had turned the water into wine. There was a government official in nearby Capernaum whose son was very sick. 47 When he heard that Jesus had come from Judea to Galilee, he went and begged Jesus to come to Capernaum to heal his son, who was about to die. 48 Jesus asked, "Will you never believe in me unless you see miraculous signs and wonders?" 49 The official pleaded, "Lord, please come now before my little boy dies." 50 Then Jesus told him, "Go back home. Your son will live!" And the man believed what Jesus said and started home. 51 While the man was on his way, some of his servants met him with the news that his son was alive and well. 52 He asked them when the boy had begun to get better, and they replied, "Yesterday afternoon at one o'clock his fever suddenly disappeared!" 53 Then the father realized that that was the very time Jesus had told him, "Your son will live." And he and his entire household believed in Jesus. 54 This was the second miraculous sign Jesus did in Galilee after coming from Judea.

OK Any further discussion on this passage?
How would you have responded to Jesus if you were the man in the story and he told you to "Go back home"?
Is there a difference between faith and belief? Or just different levels of faith?
Maybe the real sing is the faith of the father rather than the healing of the son?
What kind of sings can people see in you?

I don't know if there's a difference between faith and belief, but there are different levels of faith. Romans 1:17 says that the righteousness of God is revealed from faith to faith. In Mark 4:40 Jesus describes the people as having no faith, in Luke 12:28, he described his disciples as having little faith, and in Luke 7:9, he said the centurion had so great faith, and in Acts 11:24, there was a man full of faith. If one can be full of faith, and empty of faith, why not half full or three quarters full? Every "great" act of faith by a woman or man of God in the Bible was preceded by "smaller" acts of faith. Noah didn't just wake up one day and have the faith to build a boat. His faith grew over the years because he was the only man on earth who was righteous. So while all the other people on the earth were growing strong in unrighteousness, day by day his faith was increasing in righteousness. The same for Enoch, Abel, Abraham, and so on. Being in God is all about growing. Jesus said we are the branches that God keeps pruning so we can bear more fruit (John 15), and faith is part of the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22). Now my question is if the same faith we have to receive Christ is the same faith we have that grows with us the more we submit ourself to his lordship that allows us to receive everything we need from him.
I think that your question is missing a "then", but I think I can agree with you on the point that yes, our faith can increase through our sacrifice of selflessness (your word is "submit")
I think that Wesley woud put this as "Sanctifying Grace."
yeah and Ithik that would probably be a very common response from a lot of people in the world today too Sylvia! Thanks!
